The next novel for AP English III is Grendel by John Gardner.  We are set to begin lecture over this work on September 24th.  Given the complex philosophical nature of the work I strongly recommend that AP students begin a careful and close reading of the novel at their earliest convenience prior to the 24th.  A good work of literature will endure multiple readings—an excellent work demands it.  Be prepared to read Grendel multiple times.
