We have been blessed to see two of our adopted soldiers return home safely during this same school year.  Read below for news.

Ever since the war in Iraq began, the 3rd and 4th graders at PES have adopted soldiers on the front lines of the war.

Our Newest Soldier:

Meet Army Captain Julie Perry.  She is a pilot of Kiowa Warrior helicopters, and she belongs to the 1st Infantry Division based in Colorado Springs, CO.  She flies her missions in Iraq.

She is from Wellesley, MA, and went to college with Mrs. Speaker at Davidson College.  Did you know she played safety on her high school FOOTBALL team????  In college, she majored in biology, played on a roller hockey team, and graduated as one of the top ROTC cadets in the country!  She loves the New England Patriots (check out her hat in the pic above!).  Notice singer Darryl Worley and our own Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders entertaining her during the holidays!

In February, Capt. Perry got to go home to see her family for two weeks, but she is back flying and working in Kirkuk.  She has to work nights and sleep days, which makes her “body clock” go a little crazy!

For Easter, we sent her an “Easter Egg Hunt in a Box”, along with Easter decorations to share with her friends.  (You can see those pictures by clicking on the “4th Grade Homework” link at the top of the page.)

Here’s Capt. Perry on leave with her boyfriend, Shaun             Here’s Capt. Perry rooting for her team in NCAA tournament!

We are so proud to have her under our Parish umbrella of love and prayers.  Capt. Perry continues to update us on her missions and her days in Iraq, and we will share those with you as they come in.

Ourfourth soldier,Major Will Hickok VI, (direct descendant of Wild Bill!) served with the First Cavalry unit from Ft. Hood.  We just received word that he returned home safely to his family and new baby on Christmas Eve, 2007!

Our second soldier, Army Stryker Sgt. Adam Robbins went to Iraq and back once, and returned to Iraq as of June, 2006.  We re-adopted him, and he returned home safely in October of 2007.  Since then, he has left the service and moved back to Dallas, Texas.  He, his wife and his dad paid a SURPRISE visit to our school in January of 2008 to thank the students for their support through both of his tours of duty!  Sgt. Robbins has a new job with the Southland Corporation, and he and his wife are expecting their first baby in August, 2008! (P.S….It’s a BOY! J)

Our third soldier, Major Troy Leach, was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas, and his wife has cousins at PES, so we adopted him along with Adam.  Major Leach and the 4th Infantry Division arrived safely back at Ft. Hood on November 16, 2006.  He and his wife Rachel moved to Rhode Island for a special Army School, and in August, they welcomed their first little baby…Here’s a picture of the proud papa with baby Lilly!

Adoption by the 3rd and 4th graders at PES means daily prayers in chapel for our soldiers' safety, along with mailings of all sorts of goodies and letters of encouragement and support.  Please join us in supporting our military all over the world, but most especially those who serve in harm's way every day.
